My photography journey

Photography has been my passion since I was 13 years old. At 16, I started my own business, unsure of where it would lead. I've been so fortunate to work with wonderful people that light up a room, bring joy to my life, and make my job fun!

My first camera was a 35mm film camera, a Nikon FG that was my dad's. He bought it after graduating college and took it around Europe with him. That camera has been my baby for 20 years now! Since I learned on a manual film camera, I make the best images possible in-camera, limiting my need for post-processing. In addition to 35mm, I have been lucky to also work with medium and large format film cameras as well as mirrorless and DSLR cameras digital. I am currently based in Seattle, WA and am active in the creative community here. Photographic Center Northwest was the first place I went to meet other photographers after moving here, and they have not only helped me expand my photographic skills but I have cultivated wonderful relationships with fellow photographers I have met there.

I have extensive experience in different types of photography - portraiture, fashion & editorial, weddings, animal, nature & landscape, architecture, product, and adventure - but my favorites are portrait, editorial photography, and animal photography. It’s where I am the happiest and where I truly shine, which is evident in my work.

Where did my creative journey start? I've always been an artist. When I was 7 years old, I taught myself to knit. Several years later, I taught myself to crochet, and then spin my own yarn. I design and create costumes and clothing, and spent my college years working in my university's costume shop. I was an assistant costume designer for Spring Awakening, worked in costume design with Smuin Ballet, and now have my own K-Pop shop. I also hold a technical degree in Front-End Web Development, and am a freelance web & graphic designer!

Hopefully, this gave you some insight into who I am as a creative. I hope you enjoy my portfolio of work! Please let me know if you have any inquiries.

“I have worked with Taryn multiple times, and it keeps getting more exciting! I highly recommend Taryn, whether you're looking for something traditional or avant-garde! She has a wonderful eye and thinks of angles and poses I never would. Taryn was very professional and made me feel confident and excited to shoot with her. She also lets me have creative freedom, which is very important to me. 10/10!”
